What is pilates?
The pilates method is an approach in mind and body integration that was created by joseph pilates in the 1920s. The fundamental principles focus on balance, concentration, control, centred awareness, fluid movements and breathe.
During a pilates class - what happens?
There will be a short warm-up to get the muscles, joints and lungs ready for the exercises. The main class will then focus on specific pilates exercises on the mat working on core strength, flexibility and awareness.
What will I wear to pilates?
Some comfortable clothing that you can easily move in, most exercises are done in bare feet or socks. All mats and equipment are supplied by us, so all you need to bring to class is yourself and a smile!
What will pilates do for me?
It will make you very aware of your body and how to use it everyday. We constantly abuse our bodies by standing or sitting incorrectly allowing our postural muscles to become underused. The relaxing nature of a pilates class will help undo this along with helping to reshape your body and give you stronger abdominal muscles.
Who will be teaching the class?
All of our pilates classes are taught by qualified physiotherapists and APPI pilates teachers. Therefore, every exercise you do is closely supervised ensuring you do not hurt or inure yourself.
How many other people will be in my class?
We like to keep our classes small so that we can get to know every person and can keep a close eye on everyone’s movements, therefore the maximum number of people I your class will be 10.
I have an injury and I am worried about making it worse with the exercises?
The classes are fully supervised by a qualified physiotherapist, therefore every move is monitored and exercises are adapted depending on your individual needs.
